Warning: Irony & Politics Alert

Sometimes you just need to get things off your chest, and shouting at the TV only makes you feel better for a little while. My feelings won’t be hurt if you don’t read this, but I’ll feel better for writing it. Who knew blogs could be so therapeutic?

Perhaps you have heard that President Bush is trying to pass a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. As if there isn’t anything more pressing that our government could be addressing…

Regardless of what you’re position is on gay marriage hopefully you can see the irony in attempting to pass a constitutional amendment to restrict the freedom of Americans while we are still involved with “Operation Iraqi Freedom”. I’m sure you’re familiar with this “operation” to bring freedom to Iraq. We apparently aren’t as concerned with freedom here in this country. Here is a definition of freedom for those of you who have forgotten: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Freedom

This is quote directly from the White House Web site:

“The formation of a unity government in Iraq is a new day for the millions of Iraqis who want to live in freedom. And the formation of the unity government in Iraq begins a new chapter in our relationship with Iraq. … I assured them that the United States will continue to assist the Iraqis in the formation of a free country, because I fully understand that a free Iraq will be an important ally in the war on terror, will serve as a devastating defeat for the terrorists and al Qaeda, and will serve as an example for others in the region who desire to be free.”
— President George W. Bush — May 21, 2006

With so many troops over in Iraq, who is left to protect the freedom of Americans? Too dramatic? Maybe. I guess I just don’t understand why people aren’t outraged at this kind of discrimination. Even if this has no impact on your everyday life, maybe you should worry about what other freedoms they might want to take away in the future.

If you’re still reading, I’m impressed. So as a reward for your persistence here is a link to my new favorite Web site: http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/

This guy does a video blog and he is very random and very funny and always seems to incorporate current events (political or otherwise). Beware that his language is rarely clean and could be offensive to some people. And if that doesn’t make you want to check it out, I don’t know what else I could say…

I promise my next post won’t even mention politics!
