10 Year Reunion

It’s hard to believe, but last year was my ten-year high school reunion. To be honest, it was somewhat anti-climactic. In the movies, there is always so much more drama. I’m sure it’s a good thing though that every one was friendly and no one was out for revenge…even though it forces you to realize that your life is not as exciting as the big screen. It was actually kind of surreal to see all these faces that I recognized that had all aged so much since the last time I saw them.

The reunion was held in the same place as our senior prom ten years ago, but the vibe was definitely different. The excitement and anticipation of the prom was replaced by a small amount of nervousness and some indifference. I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to go in the first place, but it sounded like fun and I was glad to see some old friends. The real disappointment (at least for Christine) was that there was no dancing…or at least very little. We only managed a couple of slow songs. Everyone mostly crowded around the bar. And to our surprise our $40 tickets apiece did not even buy us one drink.

One of the funny things about the reunion was that the DVD of our senior show that I converted from VHS to DVD a couple years ago and just happened to pass along to the brother of one of my coworkers who graduated with me, was playing on a continuous loop on a giant projector screen. I could have made some extra money by bringing some copies and selling them. I guess there’s always the 15-year reunion…
