Montana Recap

I finally have a little bit of time to relax and tell everyone about our trip to Montana (and more specifically Glacier National Park). We spent about eight days in the park before going to a very beautiful wedding just south of the park in a little place I like to call “the middle of nowhere”. By my count we hiked all but one day that we were in Montana. I would say that we did at least fifty miles of trails (but my body feels like it could have been more).

When we first arrived in Montana and drove to the park we were a little worried…okay a lot worried…that we weren’t really going to be able to see the park through the smoke and haze caused by the wildfires surrounding the park. We couldn’t even see the mountains that were literally across the lake when we arrive at Glacier. That put us in a bit of the funk, but our white water rafting trip took our minds off it for a little while.

I somehow convinced Christine (against her will) to take a drive that first night. Neither one of us was terribly excited to go for drive and see nothing but smoke, but our hotel was not exactly as nice as where we stayed on our honeymoon. So since we had to choose between staying in the room and going for a smoky drive, the drive sounded better. We were both so happy that we went because we saw one of the most amazing sunsets we have ever seen (see below). And in our wanderings down a dirt road known affectionately as “dead end road” we came across a mountain lion meandering down the road in front of us. Those cats are HUGE!!! Thank God we were in our car at the time!

The sunset, the mountain lion, and some great pictures put us in a much better mood (see below) going into our second day in the park and it only got better from there! I will try to update this with some more stories and pictures from the park over the next few days.

In the meantime, I’ve put up some pictures from the first few days in the park:
