35th Wedding Anniversary Surprise

If anyone has been checking my blog recently I’m sure you have noticed that the frequency that I have been posting blog entries has decreased quite a bit recently. This can easily be explained by the fact that up until last weekend the room that the computer resides in had a mere 3 inches of insulation in the attic. To say that it was a bit chilly to sit by the computer is an understatement. But my dad and I spent pretty much all of last Saturday preparing the attic and then blowing insulation. There is now about 18-20 inches of insulation in the attic and the computer room (aka the doily room) is not nearly as cold anymore. We are just waiting on some new windows for this room and it should be as good as the rest of the house. Unfortunately, we might need to wait until after Thanksgiving before they arrive. Apparently, lots of people wait until October like us to order windows and the factory can’t churn them out fast enough.

On to the real excitement. A little over a month ago my sister, Christine, and I planned and beautifully executed (if I do say so myself) a surprise 35th anniversary party for my parents. We procured a few hours at the clubhouse of my sisters condo and invited the whole family. We had lots of good food, good company, and best of all my parents had no idea and were completely shocked to see everyone there.

35 years ago when my parents cut the cake at their wedding my dad gave his bride a face full of cake. The wedding photographer captured the evil glint in his eye as he “force-fed” his new wife. Of course, he’ll say that it wasn’t that bad, but even if it wasn’t, that’s how my mom remembers it. And 35 years later she still remembered; and as they fed each other cake my dad ended up with more up his nose and on his face than in his mouth. The moment was captured on camera and if you click on any of the pictures below you’ll be taken to the photo gallery that documents the event.

Why the funny pose? We are channeling my sister-in-law Patricia who absolutely loves this pose and who I’m sure would say that we are doing it all wrong.
