What Happened to the Summer

It’s been a truly amazing summer. I honestly don’t know how to recap all of it and I know I don’t have the time to do so either. So I’ll just focus on the last couple weeks. Last weekend we took Helena to the New York Aquarium while we were visiting Auntie Bunny. I’m not sure who we wore out more, Helena, or Patricia, but we had an absolute blast. Helena was excited to see all of the animals. She particularly liked the sharks and the “Ray Rays” and we even got to take in a Sea lion show. But there was one animal that she loved more than any of them. Drumroll… she absolutely loved the walruses!  We were actually treated to about 10 to 15 min. of excited screaming while she watched the walruses swim by. For a while we were trying to pretend we didn’t know her but no one was buying that.  But if you don’t believe me, here’s a sample of what it looked like…

Helena also had a great time riding the subway and this was her best “nose”…errr…I mean pose on the ride out to the aquarium. For some reason she now thinks it’s funny to pick her nose and show us the “big boogies”. If you see her, don’t encourage this behavior!

While we did not have a particularly great drive down to New York, we did have a nice picnic partway before the rains and traffic soured our moods. I’m pretty sure Helena ate more Cheeze-its than I did. Unfortunately, she has picked up some bad behaviors, namely taking other people’s food, that seems very cute at a picnic with your family, but not so cute when you take food from other kids at school. We are working on explaining the difference.

Before our trip to New York we spent a weekend down at Seabrook Beach in New Hampshire with Nonna & Poppa (and their Clifford doggy). Lena discovered not only how much fun can be had at the beach (between sand, water, and puppies running around it was truly a fun time) but she also discovered what it’s like to eat like “Smart” on vacation. As you can see by her double fisting, she truly grasps what it means to be on vacation!
