Hello Grand Canyon -South Rim

Yesterday was a long day all around between the flight to Vegas and the drive to the South Rim. It was successful in just about every sense except that I realized on the flight to Vegas that I had forgotten my National Park Pass that we bought in Death Valley.

Much drama ensued trying to find a way to ship it, but that’s not going to work so it looks like I’m going to need to put on my best sad pathetic face (no comments) and try to talk myself in with the picture Christine took of the pass. It worked last night but who knows of it will again. Seems crazy to me that they can’t look up your pass to verify.

We also ended up with about the worst car in the Avis arsenal. It’s a very shaky Ford Focus (like when starting to move from a stop it feels like a 4.0 quake kind of shaky). But Avis can’t take all the credit. The car itself as designed by Ford really is a piece of €#%&. I wonder if Microsoft is embarrassed too about their “Sync” software. My Hyundai has a more intuitive interface. And don’t get me started on all the buttons. It looks like some kind of Sci-fi spaceship gone severely awry.

We did get to see a nice sunset last night. Hoping to have some hiking on tap for today.
