First Snow Shoeing Adventure
Helena got beautiful pink snowshoes for Christmas that Nonna converted to blue ones (that we call frozen snow shoes) in light of the future snowshoer in the family. With the lack of snow we had been getting in December and January we weren’t sure if we were going to even have an opportunity to snowshoe with Helena this winter. But after more than 40 inches of snow in the last couple weeks we finally got a good opportunity to go this past weekend.
She was pretty excited to go until we actually got there. We had to deal with some complaining at the beginning of our short loop at the Audubon Society. But she righted the ship after one warning from mom (and a few games of “would rather eat…”) and we had a great walk through the woods. We have found that the best way to have a successful hike is to get her thinking about something other than hiking. We even got to walk out onto the lake, which was a first. From the normal vantage point that looks out onto the lake we have never been able to see the Osprey viewing area, but walking out on the lake allowed us to see through the tree cover and now we know where to go back when the ospreys are nesting.

She even said she would be willing to go snowshoeing again, so we must have done something right. Based on the weather forecast, I’d say there’s a good chance we will get the opportunity very soon.
