One More Hike!

Well, last weekend was not our last hike of the season! We both took a day off from work on Thursday and took a drive up north to enjoy the last few days of the peak “leaf peeping” season. We definitely made the most of it.

After stopping a couple places to take pictures (which is only natural when the leaves look the way they did on Thursday) we made it to our first hiking destination…which turned out to be our only hiking destination. Our book said the trail head was 70 yards from the parking area so we trekked down the road (heads down), my parents with us after meeting up with them on the road. Unfortunately, the book was way off in its calculation of the distance. What they really meant to say was “almost directly across the street from the parking lot”. We ended up taking the road less travelled and had a nice little adventure in the woods trying to figure out which trail we were actually on. Our nice little hike that was supposed to be an easy walk up turned into a rock climbing marathon as we approached the mountain from the other side (the steep side). We were a little tired, but I think we appreciated the view more than the people who came up the easy way. This was our reward…

We had planned on some additional hikes, but after our adventure there was neither time nor energy to do more hiking. We opted instead for some scenic driving and gawking at the “Vistas” (which prompted some Microsoft jokes). We even found a new scenic drive that we had never taken before off the Kangamangus called Bear Notch Rd. Below are a couple more pictures from some of the look-outs that we stopped at. In all we took almost 300 pictures and the number is only that low because we ran out of storage on one of the cameras. I’m going to try really hard to get some more pictures posted in the next couple days. There are some other pictures that were posted a couple days ago. If you click on the “My Pictures Page” link here (or on the right side navigation).
