Announcement…

We are so excited to share our exciting news that our little girl, Helena (pronounced HEL – LAY – NAH) came into our lives on July 18th in the wee hours of the morning.  Christine was a total Rock Star, 12 hours of labor (including almost 3 hours of pushing) without so much as a Motrin or even a stiff drink. Her mom and I coached her and she breathed her way through what would cripple mere mortals. We’re so proud of her!!!

Things started moving around 10am on Friday, the 17th, but nothing too dramatic until later in the afternoon. By 5pm we didn’t think we could handle the contractions at home any more. We tried, but after taking almost 2 hours to watch a 43 minute episode of Veronica Mars (which we still hadn’t finished) we called the hospital to tell them we were on our way.

Christine’s mom and I were her labor coaches and while she did make us work, no one worked as hard as she did. I’ve never been able to watch a “birth” on video before without feeling sick, but when you’re in the moment it is the most amazing and inspiring sight to witness. I’m so glad I was in the room to share that with Christine and Helena. When it was finally over the emotions of the moment got the better of me, which I feel fine admitting, and the tears of joy started flowing.
