South Kaibab Trail – Grand Canyon

Yesterday we hiked the South Kaibab Trail on the south rim down to Cedar Point, about 3 miles round trip and about 1000 feet of elevation. When you start the trail you start dropping in elevation immediately, switchback after switchback after switchback after (well I think you get the idea).

The picture below is from where we started.

The great thing about South Kaibab is that the trail has unobstructed views of the Grand Canyon the whole way. The not so great thing is the ascent back up.

The first stop along the way is a place called “Ooh Ahh Point”. I think they call it that because “Holy S&$! Point” was not family friendly enough.

The views from Cedar Point were even more spectacular. We had a snack right on the edge and even after sitting there for 15 minutes I still don’t think I could take it all in.

Another Panorama, because I can šŸ˜‰

Kasper wasn’t so thrilled coming back up the trail but we both made it and had enough energy to eat lunch and go on a bike tour of the Hermit’s Rd side of the canyon in the afternoon. Not a bad way to see the canyon I must admit. I even convinced Kasper to be in a couple pictures.

One of the many spectacular views along Hermit’s Road.
